Industrial Optical Alignment uses many specialized scales and targets to measure different components on the various types of equipment that we work on.

Targets utilize sets of paired lines that can be optically "split" by the crosshair of the instrument.

Scales also have paired lines, usually 0.100" apart. The Engineer uses an Optical Micrometer to offset the line of sight to the next lowest set of paired lines. The reading on the target and the reading on the micrometer are combined to yield a distance that is accurate to within 0.001".
